Hawaiian sea salt

Misc.
I remembered recently finding this product at an online supply site (www.globalfoodmarket.com). I've never seen it before, so it caught my eye. Here is the description:

"Hawaiian "Alaea Sea Salt" is unprocessed sea salt rich in natural minerals. It is harvested with small amounts of reddish Hawaiian clay (Alaea) which enrich the salt with Iron-Oxide and turns the salt in red color."

Here is the description from the Dean and Deluca shopping site:

"Prized for centuries in Hawaii, the Alaea Red Salt from Kauai is reputed to have many healing and restorative powers. Tinged from volcanic clay that runs into the sea, the salt is mellower and higher in trace minerals than many sea salts, with a flavor enhanced by the subtle contributions of earth and algae."

(btw, it is half the price at the Global Food Market site, only $3.95/lb.)
