Hi Jennie,

No need to apologize, you didn't know. It was explained to me that while the practice of heating unopened cans was never recommended, over the years the way the cans are sealed has changed making it more likely for the cans to burst. I believe now it's just a type of glue holding on the lid where previously they were soldered on.
