to what Ken suggested, you will use a tablespoon to get the coconut meat out. It is not as simple because you can have green coconuts that have coconut water & a soft coconut meat. In PR the people use a machete or a chef knife to cut an opening in the top of the coconut. Then, they put the water in a glass container & put it in the refrigerator to drink it mixed with scotch (delicious). If the coconut is already dry, they put ot with a machete the dry part that looks like hay, Then you take the dry coconut & open it as Ken recommended. Then, with a spoon you take out the coconut meat. You can process it for desserts or cakes. It is also delicious as a fruit.
