I just bought one from QVC. It was $179.00 plus tax, shipping/handling. But, it came with lots of goodies that would've been real expensive otherwise. I also found that ordering the bags through QVC was reasonably priced when compared with others. If they are out, I have a person who does it as a home business and her prices are reasonable too, and I feel good supporting a retired "Mom and Pop" store.
I mainly bought mine for produce that I was throwing away like crazy, and, sorry to say, you can't really use your Foodsaver for produce in the way that I would've liked. But I decided to keep mine anyway, because it really makes such a difference in the freshness of things. I love the cannister mine came with and I purchased wide mouth jars in different sizes from Walmart and am simply making 'different' use out of it than intended. It's definitely a worthy investment. You will find things to use it for that you hadn't thought of, and are glad you did. You can make packages of food for the freezer, the pantry, for Emergency Kits, for camping,...
