Opinions on cookie ingredients - name-brand v. Store-brand

Tracy, I have two pieces on info for you. First, I only use Land O'Lakes margarine in my chocolate chip cookies. Apparently the amount of water in sticks of margarine varies from brand to brand, and that's the only brand that works well in my recipe. Second, I did a blind taste-test with my six kids and some friends a few years back to see which chocolate chips were the best. I included Safeway and Giant (local grocery stores) generic brands, Mrs. Fields, Nestle, Hershey, and Guittard chips (all semi-sweet). I'm sure it's a matter of individual preference more than anything else, but in my taste-test, Safeway chips won by a narrow margin over Hershey, Nestle and Guittard tested about the same in 3rd place, and Mrs. Fields and Giant were definitely unpopular. I always use Safeway brand now.
I can also tell you that I hesitate to use Giant generic brand flour for any baking -it seems to measure differently, I have to use more to get similar results.
