re: Bernardin Lids

Misc.
All of our canning suppliers say that Bernardin no longer supplies the 78mm lids for the traditional mason jars. Furthermore, it appears that Bernardin has cornered the market on home canning jars in the U.S. and Canada. (Does any one know of another manufacturer?)

As I see it, Bernardin would like us to throw away the thousands of jars with 78mm openings and replace them with the wide-mouthed jar or the 70mm-mouthed jar. What a waste! This is not good corporate citizenship in our world where we already have far too much waste.

I urge all home canners to protest Bernardin's ploy. I myself refuse to buy more Bernardin products even if it means that I will limit my homec-canning until some other manufacturer fills the gap or until Bernardin comes to its senses. Please join me in a protest.
