re: Canning on smooth-top stoves

I too have a smooth-top glass stove. The manual says the stove isn't really good for canning because you can't get the burners hot enough to keep a boil going. If your burners are like mine, they cycle on and off while cooking. The manual says the old coil-type stoves are the best for canning as the burner always stays hot. I'm now looking for the "Double Burner High Pressure Camp Chef," model DH-280LW. It's for outdoors and kind of looks like a BBQ grill with two burners, only a much simpler style. Legs are adjustible and you can view it at campchef.com. The only one they advertise for canning is the model listed above, two 75,000 BTU burners hooked to a single propane tank. No more heating up the house while canning. Retail $192. Lots of stores carry the 30,000 BTU Camp Chef's, but I haven't found anyone other than campchef.com that sells the 75,000 BTU model.
