Recipe: Apple Oatmeal Bars (using sliced apples)

APPLE OATMEAL BARS

1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1/2 cup shortening
3 medium red apples, sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Sift flour. Combine flour, salt and soda with brown sugar. Add in oatmeal. Cut in shortening until crumbly.

Spread half of mixture onto a greased 11 by 7 baking sheet. Arrange slice apples over mixture in dish and dot with butter. Sprinkle granulated sugar over apples and butter. Cover with remaining mixture and press firmly onto apples.

Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees F.
