Recipe: Charlie Rich Cracker Bars (using saltines, 1960's)

CHARLIE RICH CRACKER BARS

Soda crackers (saltines)
1 cup butter or margarine (plus more for buttering pan)
1 cup sugar
2 cups milk chocolate pieces

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Butter well a jelly roll pan (15x10x1-inch). Make a single layer of crackers.

Melt the butter in a saucepan; add sugar and blend. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, and boil 1 minute. Pour over crackers.

Bake 3 minutes in preheated oven at 400 degrees F.

Remove from oven; sprinkle chocolate pieces over top. When melted, spread evenly over top. Cool; cut into squares.

FOR DIFFERENT PAN SIZES:
- In a 9-inch square pan, place 16 crackers and make 1/2 the recipe.
- In a 13x9-inch pan, place 24 crackers and make 3/4 of the recipe.
