Elly, I thought I was the only person whose mother made homemade chili sauce. No one had ever heard of it. I've kept her recipe (which matches your moms recipe except for the dried red peppers) and made it last summer when the tomatoes and green peppers were abundent from our garden. My Dad visited us this past fall and I served him the chili sauce with roast beef and he said it tasted just like my moms. Great recipe and I think I will try it with the dried red pepper flakes. And the house does smell great when it's cooking!! Thanks.
