Recipe: Corn Dogs

Corn Dogs

This recipe is from I Can Make A Rainbow, a wonderful book of crafts and games for children. I like this recipe so much, I never looked farther.

6 hot dogs
2 cups cooking oil
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup cornmeal
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
2 tbsp shortening
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
2 tsp dry mustard

12 bamboo skewers or 6 thick lollipop sticks (from a craft store)

Put oil in an electric frying pan and heat it to 400F.

In a bender, beat together egg, milk, sugar, shortening, salt and mustard.

Add flour, cornmeal and baking powder. Mix well. Leave the batter in the blender.

Put each hot dog on a stick (or on two skewers).

Dip each hot dog in the batter. Fry them in the oil, three at a time, for 10 minutes (until they're golden brown).
