Recipe(tried): Family Birthday Dinner - Cauliflower Salad, Banana Cake, Individual Soft Ice Cream
MenusADVERTISEMENT
Good Morning Everyone!
It is a gorgeous day here in Indiana! I have been up since 5:00 a.m. getting ready for my grandson's 6th Birthday. This will only be a small family get together as he will have a party with classmates at the local pizza place. We will have most of it outside on the deck and patio since it is such a beautiful day. we will be having:
Gina's Inside out Burgers(already posted) & Hot Dogs on the Grill.
Fresh Fruit & Veggie trays
Cauliflower Salad
Assorted Chips
Banana Cake
Individual Soft Homemade Ice Cream
For the fruit and veggie trays, I just buy what is season and make huge trays of them as this is what my family loves.
Cauliflower Salad
1 head cauliflower, cut into florets
1 head lettuce, cut up for salad
1 lb. bacon, fried and crumbled
1 small onion, chopped fine
2 cups salad dressing
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese
Layer ingredients as listed above, cover and let set in refrigerator all day. Mix right before serving.
Banana Cake (Skyler's favorite)
1 1/2 sticks butter
2 eggs
2 cups sugar
Cream together.
Add:
2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
3/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup mashed ripe bananas
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
May use a 13x9-inch pan or 2 round layers. It makes a great layer cake which is what I am making today.
Banana Icing
1 stick softened butter
1 mashed banana
1 (16 oz) box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
milk to smooth
Cream butter and powdered sugar together. Add mashed banana & vanilla. If it is too thick smooth with milk.
Spread on cooled cake.
Individual Soft Ice Cream (recipe per serving)
1/2 cup half & half
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 sandwich size ziplock bag
1 gallon size ziplock bag
rock salt
ice cubes
Measure 1/2 cup half & half. Add sugar and vanilla. Pour into the small bag. Try get as much air out as possible before sealing. Place small bag in larger bag. Place ice cubes in on top of small bag. Sprinkle with rock salt and seal. Shake for 5>10 minutes. Open bag and carefully lift small bag out. Wipe off small bag well and serve in the bag.
The kids just love this and so do the big kids but it is definitely an out side project!
Happy Cooking
