These aren't the cookies you are looking for, but they might be a suitable substitute. It's an old family recipe--I'm in my 40s and this came from either my great or great-great grandmother.
FRIED COOKIES
INGREDIENTS:
1 egg
1 egg of water (either measure the amount of egg in a measuring cup and add an equal amount of water or fill the empty egg shells with water)
enough flour to make the dough as soft as a baby's bottom (it's over 1 cup, but I'm not sure by how much--it depends on the flour and the humidity, etc.)
oil for frying
confectioner's sugar (I would think you could drizzle honey over them instead of coating them with sugar.)
TO MAKE THE COOKIES:
Lightly beat egg and water. Add flour, mixing and then kneading it into a fairly stiff dough. Let dough rest and then divide it into easily handled proportions.
Roll out dough about 1/8-inch thick and cut into rectangles about 1x4-inches (I usually roll it out using a pasta machine and then just cut across the strips.). Pinch the center of each rectangle together so that it looks like long bow-tie pasta.
Fry in hot oil, turning as necessary, until the cookies are golden brown.
Drain and then shake in a bag with powdered sugar.
