Recipe: Raisin Apple Cookies (Quaker Oats, 1955)

RAISIN APPLE COOKIES

1 1/2 cups sifted enriched flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1 cup diced raw apple
1 1/2 cups Quaker or Mother's Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
1/2 cup raisins
Cinnamon sugar (optional)

Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices into bowl. Add shortening, sugar, egg and watt Beat until smooth, about 2 minutes. Fold in diced apple, rolled oats and raisins. Drop from a teaspoon onto greased baking sheet. (Roll cookies so cinnamon sugar if desired).

Bake in a moderate oven (375 degrees F) 12 to 15 minutes.

Makes 3 dozen cookies
