I think coconut tinted green would work well for grass, too.
Golf Cake
1 prepared 9x13 inch chocolate cake, cooled in pan
1 can (about 16 ounces) white cake frosting
Bright green food coloring paste* (see note)
Wooden skewer and paper triangle (for flag)
Special equipment
2-inch diameter round cookie cutter or druinking glass
Pastry bag and star tip (optional)
Clean unused golf ball
Leave cake in pan or carefully remove it to a rectangular serving plate.
Stir frosting until smooth. Stir in food coloring until you achieve desired shade of green for grass.
With the cookie cutter or a drinking glass, cut a hole in the center of the cake, at least half the depth of the cake. Use a spoon to remove cake from the hole, being careful not to disturb the hole's eges. Don't scoop all the way to the bottom of the pan. Reserve the cake you remove from another use. (Like eating while decorating cake!)
Use a saptula to spread frosting on top of cake, or pipe it on with the pastry bag and star tip.
Thread paper flag onto wooden skewer and insert upright in cake. Place golf ball near hole.
Makes 10 servings.
*Note: Look for food coloring paste at baking supply stores or arts and craft stores. You can use regular liquid food coloring, but you may not be able to achieve as vibrant a green as with the paste.
