Recipe(tried): Homemade Large Ornaments

Crafts
Introduce the Scouts to the joys of paper mache!! Doesn't get easier (or cheaper) than a bag of balloons, newspaper (junk mail, old magazines and phone books) and some wallpaper paste (or flour paste)!! Instead of pinatas..you'll have huge ornaments-- to decorate, after thoroughly dry, however the individual creative imaginations choose.

Or.. you can use string, or yarn, or ribbons that have been dipped in wallpaper paste to wind randomly around the balloon. Build up enough layers so it holds together, but still has an 'open' design.

After decorated, spray..or paint on..a clear sealant. available in craft stores and paint departments.

Also, huge German stars can be made from wide outdoor ribbon. The wider the ribbon, the bigger the star. The paper star instructions are online on several origami sites. Happy Holidays to you and the Scouts!! :)
