Recipe: Hot Spiced Wine (Gluhwein)

Misc.

The following recipe is from The German Cookbook by Mimi Sheraton. I lived in Germany for four years during the 1980's and enjoyed the Gluhwein (Hot Spiced Wine) during the cold winter months. I can still smell the steaming spiced wine which was sold by street venders at the Christmas markets each holiday season!
Hope this recipe is what you are looking for, and hope you enjoy it.

SPICED WINE (GLUHWEIN)

2 bottles red wine
1 cup sugar
1 stick cinnamon
3 or 4 slices lemon, each studded with 3 or 4 cloves

Heat all ingredients together until they reach the boiling point, but do not boil. Pour into glasses or mugs and serve.
