Dear Pat,
If the dirty appearance on your pocketbook is mold, the only thing I can think of to kill it is bleach. Unfortunately, that will probably change the color of the pocketbook. You might first try a solution of Oxy-clean and water, mixed according to the manufacturer's directions. In my experience, Oxy-clean does a bang-up job. If it doesn't clean up, you could use a solution of 50% water and 50% laundry bleach and spray it on to kill the mold. That should take care of it. Then you could spray the inside with Febreze. The bleach solution will probably take the color out, but not uniformly. YOu may then have to paint it or use shoe polish to restore it. Unless it is very valuable, it might not be worth all of this effort. I wish you the best.
