Recipe: Italian Salad Dressing Mix (for salad dressing or marinade)

FOR THE DRY MIX:
1 1/2 tablespoons dried oregano
1 1/2 tablespoons dried basil
1 1/2 tablespoons garlic salt
1 1/2 tablespoons onion powder
1 1/2 tablespoons salt
3/4 tablespoon paprika
3/4 tablespoon dried dill weed
3/4 tablespoon dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Dash ground cayenne pepper
Combine all herbs and spices thoroughly.
Makes about 2/3 cup dry mix
TO MAKE ITALIAN SALAD DRESSING:
1 1/2 tablespoons Italian Salad Dressing Mix
3/4 cup oil*
1/4 cup vinegar*
2 1/2 tablespoons water
Combine in a dressing bottle or a jar with tight-fitting lid. Shake well. Let stand for at least 1 hour to blend flavors.
*For added flavor, try using your favorite herbal vinegar or flavored oil.
TO MAKE A MARINADE:
1 1/2 tablespoons Italian Salad Dressing Mix
1/2 cup red wine
2 teaspoons thyme
1/2 pound sliced fresh mushrooms
1 large onion, sliced
Combine ingredients for marinade together. Great on steak.
