I had enrolled in the McCall's Cooking School back in the 1970's. It was all done by mail in those days! This recipe came in that course. I've made it many, many times and it always came out excellent! I used to sell them at work.
The recipe may seem intimidating when you first read it, especially for a novice baker, but it's really pretty easy. Separating those eggs is the most time-consuming part.
