Sue, I am from W.Va. and a lady I worked with gave me this recipe over 30 years ago. Here goes:
Old Fashion Peanut Butter Candy
4 cups granulated sugar
1 large can Carnation Evaporated Milk
3 tablespoons butter
Mix and cook until soft ball stage. Start testing after about 5 minutes. This burns easily, so stir real often. Remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 4 heaping Tablespoons of peanut butter or more if you like. Beat for about a minute or two and pour into a buttered dish. It is very creamy and good.
enjoy.
