Recipe: One-Dish French Toast and Sausage Breakfast (yeast batter, baked)
Breakfast and BrunchONE-DISH FRENCH TOAST AND SAUSAGE BREAKFAST
"A rich, sweet, moist and springy breakfast casserole which convincingly delivers the full taste of French toast - eggy, cinnamony, and syrupy. Each serving features a sausage patty on top."
FOR THE BATTER:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 envelopes Fleischmann's RapidRise Yeast
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk (very warm 120-130 degrees F)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
1 egg
FOR THE TOPPINGS:
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 eggs
2 tablespoons milk
6 pre-cooked sausage patties
3/4 cup pancake syrup, divided use
Mix the ingredients for the batter together in a pre-sprayed 8x8-inch baking dish.*
For the toppings, combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Beat together 3 eggs and 2 tablespoons milk in a separate bowl.
Top batter evenly with cinnamon sugar and sausage patties. Pour egg mixture over top. Drizzle with 1/4 cup of syrup.
Bake by placing in a COLD oven; set temperature to 350 degrees F. Bake for 30 minutes, or until done.
Drizzle remaining 1/2 cup syrup over top and serve.
*If desired, batter may be mixed in a separate bowl. Proceed as directed above.
