Recipe(tried): Poolside food for bv/AR
MenusGulf Shores is one of our favorite haunts. I don't know which part you're staying in, toward Ft. Morgan, Central Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, or Perdido, but there should be good supermarkets close by. We have utilized the condo grills before, but have always carried the grilled things back to the condo to eat. Here's what I would do for a true picnic.
I would suggest that you first reserve your grill and tables and start early. You might find that you are vying with other folks staying there from different time zones who will all charge the grills at once.
As far as food...boneless chops, bbq chicken halves, ribeyes, or even hamburger steaks cooked in foil packs with veggies would be good to prep in the condo kitchen and carry down. Vidalia onions are in season and terrific done in foil. If the grill has a side burner, you're in luck. If not, you could preboil some corn, bake the potatoes,(use aluminum foil to keept everything hot) put together a salad to toss at the last minute, and decide on a dessert like brownies, pound cake with fruit, or even a frozen Pepperidge Farm cake that could be defrosting while the meat is cooking on the grill. Load everything up in the condo laundry basket, with a towel or newspaper in the bottom, and have some strapping young folks carry it and the cooler down to the picnic area.
What about kabobs? Those could be done with meats, veggies, and fruits all on separate skewers and prepped and ready to go to be placed on the grill at differing intervals.
Keep it simple and utilize pre-made items from the markets for everyday eating in the condo. Send the young adults to do some grocery shopping, if they want something special, and give yourself a break from all the food decisions. There are some fun restaurants in GS. You might decide not to cook at all!
I hope you have a wonderful vacation!
