Recipe(tried): Portuguese Sopas (pot roast soup with cabbage, mint, and cinnamon)

PORTUGUESE SOPAS

1 (3 lb) pot roast
1 large onion, diced
1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
1 cup red wine
1 cup mint leaves
2 tbsp cinnamon
1 clove garlic, diced
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp cloves
3 bay leaves
1 tsp salt
water
2 medium heads of cabbage, quartered
1 loaf of French bread

In a large cooking pot, combine the first 12 ingredients, plus the salt. Cover with water and cook at a medium heat for 4 hours. Add more water if necessary, as it cooks.

Add cabbage to the soup. Cook for 30 minutes or until cabbage is tender.

Serve over sliced French bread.
