Recipe(tried): Roosevelt Beans (Roosevelt Lodge, 1980's)

Side Dishes - Beans
The recipe provided by Web Babe is incorrect. The recipe originally came from a Lutheran Church cookbook (MacIntosh, MN), compliments of Ms. Naomi Jean Thompson (Hillgartner) and was adapted for the Roosevelt Lodge in the early 1980's. It became a signature dish.

There are many stories surrounding these beans, the most infamous being the "Flagpole Beans" story.

Much like rubber was invented by accident, the secret to these beans was also discovered by accident, when several pans of leftover beans remained in a warming oven overnight at the Old Faithful Lodge. The beans dried out somewhat, enhancing the flavor and plate appearance. The somewhat groggy morning crew discovered the beans. With no cold pizza or beer to fight off the hangover, the beans became the solution.
