REAL BAKED BEANS AND FRANKS
"To add interest to the meal, serve with apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon."
3 cups dried navy beans
7 cups water, divided use
1 medium-sized yellow onion, cut into 1/8-inch pieces
1 large tomato, chopped
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup maple-flavored syrup
2 teaspoons dried mustard
2 teaspoons vinegar
1 cup water
12 all-beef hot dogs, cut into 1/2-inch round slices
Crock Pot Size: 5-6 quarts
Wash the beans then soak them in 6 cups water for 12 hours before cooking.
WHEN READY TO COOK:
Drain and wash the beans again.
Combine the onion, tomato, ketchup, brown sugar, maple-flavored syrup, mustard and vinegar in the slow cooker.
Cook uncovered in the crock pot on HIGH setting until the brown sugar has dissolved; stir well.
Add the remaining 1 cup water, drained beans, and hot dogs. Stir to cover the beans and hot dogs with sauce.
Cover the crock pot and cook on LOW setting for 7 to 9 hours.
One hour before serving, remove the cover and continue cooking on low setting.
Makes 6 servings
