Recipe: Rosie's Turkey Burgers (Rosie Daley)

Turkey meat can be a bit dry, but the addition of mushrooms in this recipe transforms the meat into a succulent and tender consistency. Barbecuing burgers made of well-seasoned turkey instead of traditional beef is a healthy alternative, and I think you'll really be surprised at how delicious they are.
1 pound ground turkey
4 ounces button mushrooms, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1 teaspoon prepared barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (see note)
Black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Cooking oil spray
4 whole wheat hamburger buns
In a bowl, combine the turkey, mushrooms, onion, barbecue sauce, chili powder, Cajun seasoning, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. With a spoon or your clean hands, blend thoroughly. Make 4 patties of equal size.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Spray patties lightly with cooking oil spray. Cook the patties for 7 minutes on a side or until they are cooked through.
Toast the buns and fill each with a burger and garnish.
*Tips from Rosie's Kitchen:
To make your own Cajun seasoning, blend together 1 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon oregano, and 1/2 teaspoon basil. Store in an airtight container.
