Recipe: Pizza Loaf (using French bread and ground beef, broiled, 1960's)

1 loaf French bread
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped ripe olives
2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
2 cans (6 ounces each) tomato paste
1 (8 ounce) package sharp cheese slices
3 tomatoes, thinly sliced
Preheat broiler.
Cut bread into thirds lengthwise; set aside.
Combine all ingredients except bread, cheese and tomatoes. Spread mixture evenly on each third of bread.
Broil 5-inches from unit 12 to 15 minutes.
Cut cheese slices in half diagonally and place on top of sandwiches alternately with tomato slices. Return to broiler and broil until cheese melts.
Makes 12 to 15 servings
