Recipe(tried): Some reception decoration ideas for Virginia/Ohio

Holidays, Celebrations
Hi Virginia ~

I have a few ideas for your request for decorations, etc. for your honor society reception.

The decoration / contest idea that I am thinking of has been posted here on TRL previously.. with a few twists. The purpose is to help your group relax, laugh and get to know each other a bit.

Ask the parents of the honor students to give you a baby picture of each student who is being honored. (It is best to get this from the parents so the students do not compare their pictures before the reception.) Have the photos blown up into poster size and display them in the reception room. Assign a number to each picture.

Divide the group into "teams." [By dividing the group into teams (rather than families), it will not be obvious if some family members were not able to attend.]

You might divide the teams by using their birth dates.... January to April one team, May to August another team, and September to December on the third team. Of course, you will have to re-divide the teams if the numbers of participants on each team is seriously out of balance.

Provide each team with writing implements and a piece of paper listing the name of each student. Each team will work to decide which baby picture belongs to each honor student.

Give them a time limit so this is not a long and tedious task. Collect the answers and then have each student go stand by their picture.

I would buy "first prize" blue ribbons that could be given to each member of the winning team. Or, maybe someone else has an idea for prizes.

If you cannot get baby pictures of the honor students, you might consider doing this same event with baby pictures (or high school pictures) of school personnel.

Virginia, whether or not you use this idea, it would be great if you post what you did do back here on TRL for future folks who are looking for ideas. Besides, it is always fun for us to hear back! Have fun. Kelly
