Recipe: Swamp Creature Toes (using pretzel rods, microwave)
Holidays, CelebrationsSWAMP CREATURE TOES
1/2 cup whole skinless salted almonds
Green liquid food coloring
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
12 (8-inch) pretzel rods
Line 2 baking sheets with parchment or wax paper.
Place almonds and about 10 drops coloring in a small stainless steel, ceramic or glass bowl (plastic might stain). Stir well until all nuts are coated. Spread green almonds on a plate to dry.
Heat chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in a microwave oven on high power 60 seconds; stir well. If not quite smooth, heat in two or three 10-second bursts, stirring well after each burst.
Break (or cut) each pretzel rod into 3 pieces. Dip a broken piece about halfway up into melted chocolate, leaving broken or cut end visible. (If it's an end piece of the pretzel, dip the finished end, leaving the broken end showing.)
Lay each dipped pretzel on prepared baking sheet and lay a green almond on top of the dipped end. If the almond won't stick, dip the underside in a bit more chocolate.
When all the toes are decorated, place the baking sheets in the refrigerator or freezer to firm chocolate.
