Recipe: Swiss 'n Chicken Casserole
Misc. What a fun question! Wow! Nixon, Viet Nam, Tie Die, CB radios, electric skillets, electric knives, Charlie the Tuna, Malt O Meal, Life Savers, Hawaiian Punch, Campbell's Soup... What a great question!
My mind immediately went to Tuna-Noodle Casserole made with cream of mushroom soup. Back then we crumbled real saltly potatoe chips on top and covered that with grated cheddar cheese!
I also remember Mock Apple Pie. I will look for that recipe in case you were not so blessed as to have had Mock Apple Pie. I never understood why it REALLY WORKED!
Here are some others I remember. Please, let us know how the party was and what everyone brought. People ask for theme party ideas on TKL frequently. I never though of the 1970s!!!

Baking chicken with salad dressing . . . we were sooo daring!
Swiss 'n Chicken Casserole
Prep Time:20 mins.
Ready In:1 hr.
Skill: No Experience
Required
Serves:6
4 cups chopped, cooked chicken
2 cups (8 oz.) Shredded KRAFT Natural Swiss Cheese
2 cups croutons
2 cups sliced celery
1 cup MIRACLE WHIP or MIRACLE WHIP LIGHT Salad Dressing
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup chopped onion
HEAT oven to 350 F.
MIX all ingredients. Spoon into 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle with
chopped walnuts, if desired.
BAKE 40 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Makes 6 servings.

BBQ chicken!
Oven Tender Chicken
Prep Time:5 mins.
Ready In:1 hr. 5 mins.
Serves:4
1 broiler-fryer chicken (3 to 3 1/2 lb.), cut up
1 bottle (18 oz.) KRAFT Original Barbecue Sauce
HEAT oven to 350 F.
PLACE chicken in 13x9-inch baking dish. Pour barbecue sauce over
chicken.
BAKE, uncovered, 1 hour or until cooked through. Makes 4 servings.

Holiday Poke Cake
Prep Time:15 mins.
Ready In:4 hrs. 15 mins.
Skill: Learning Cook
Serves:12
2 baked 9-inch round white cake layers cooled*
2 cups boiling water
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Brand Gelatin Dessert, any red flavor
1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Brand Lime Flavor Gelatin Dessert
1 tub (8 or 12 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping thawed
Or use lite white cake layers, JELL-O Brand Sugar Free Gelatin
Dessert and COOL WHIP LITE Whipped Topping.
PLACE cake layers, top sides up, in 2 clean 9-inch round cake pans.
Pierce cake with large fork at 1/2- inch intervals.
STIR 1 cup of the boiling water into each flavor of gelatin in separate
bowls at least 2 minutes until completely dissolved. Carefully pour red
gelatin over 1 cake layer and lime gelatin over second cake layer.
Refrigerate 3 hours.
DIP 1 cake pan in warm water 10 seconds; unmold onto serving plate.
Spread with about 1 cup of the whipped topping. Unmold second cake
layer; carefully place on first cake layer. Frost top and sides of cake
with remaining whipped topping.
REFRIGERATE at least 1 hour or until ready to serve. Decorate as
desired. Store leftover cake in refrigerator. Makes 12 servings.
GUMDROP Leaves and Flowers: Flatten green gumdrops with rolling
pin on a smooth flat surface sprinkled with sugar. Roll until very thin,
turning frequently to coat with sugar. Cut into leaf shapes. For flowers,
flatten and roll red gumdrops into thin strips. Roll up each strip tightly to
form a flower.

WATERGATE SALAD
Ingredients:
1 box pistachio pudding
1 tub cool whip
1 cup walnuts
2 cups green grapes
1 cup pineapple chunks
Make the pudding as directed, then fold in the cool whip. Mix in everything else and then chill. Yum but really weird.
