Recipe: Toffee Squares (Occident/Kind Midas Flour, 1960's)

TOFFEE SQUARES

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
FOR TOPPING:
1 (6-oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 cup chopped walnuts

Cream butter, brown sugar and vanilla. Add flour, 1/2 cup chocolate pieces and 3/4 cup walnuts; mix well. Press into bottom of greased 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes or until light golden brown. Immediately sprinkle with 1/2 cup chocolate pieces. Let stand 5 minutes. Spread to frost, sprinkle with 1/4 cup nuts. Cut into squares while still warm.

Makes 4 to 5 dozen
