Recipe(tried): Zuccarines - Italian Knot Cookies (makes 30 dozen)

I found the recipe for Zuccarines

ITALIAN KNOT COOKIES (ZUCCARINES)

1 lb. margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
12 eggs
1 cup Milnot
1 shot Whiskey
1 tsp. anise oil
1 Tbsp. anise extract
10 cups flour
10 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup anise seeds (optional)
Icing (recipe follows)

Mix margarine and sugar together. Add eggs, Milnot, whiskey, anise oil and extract. Blend in flour, baking powder and anise seed, if using. Chill overnight or for several days.

Roll small amounts of dough like a pencil about 4 inches long and form into knots.

Bake on greased cookie sheets at 375 degrees F for 8-9 minutes until bottoms are lightly browned.

ICING

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
1 shot whiskey
1 Tbsp. anise extract
1 tsp. anise oil

Combine all ingredients for the icing in a saucepan. Cook on medium heat until mixture spins a thread. Drop half of the cookies into the icing and gently turn to coat. Separate cookies on a flour soaked towel to dry. Repeat icing recipe for the other half of the cookies.

Makes about 30 dozen half dollar size cookies
