ISO: Baking with Wilton Christmas Tree Mold

Misc.

I purchased a 1972 Wilton Christmas Tree aluminum mold at a church sale yesterday. I can't figure out how it works. It has the two halves of the tree that fit together to make a standing tree, and it also has a 'tube' insert that is supposed to fit into the 'bottom' of the tree where there is a hole when the two halves are put together. If I fill one half with batter, and lie the tube on top of the batter, then put the the other half of the tree on, the hole is not completely covered, and looks like the batter would spill out when rising. Am I missing a piece to the mold? Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? Do you know what kind of cake mix to use?
