ISO: birthday cupcakes

My son turns 1 this week and I'm looking for cute cupcakes to fit a "snakes, snails, and puppydog tails" theme. The kids are all fairly young and I'm leary of using gummy worms or some of he other candies I've seen. Any ides? Thanks!
