ISO: how to bake bread pudding using a hot water bath

Misc.
Hi I have a recipe for bread pudding which is excellent, have made it a few times, but using a glass pyrex dish the outer part becomes very hard. I heard someone say us a hot water bath. Does this mean water is boiling in the roasting pan, that I use before placing the pudding pan, into water? How long and at what temperature should I use with the hot water bath. Thanks.
