ISO: Need recipe for pepper sauce

Misc.
My grandmother used to make what she called "pepper sauce"--she placed peppers (cayenne, jalapeno, chilis, etc) into a bottle and put vinegar on them. We poured them over peas. I have been looking for a recipe and I can't find one! I don't know if I should just pour the vinegar over the pepper and leave it alone or if I should cook the vinegar--what kind? any other spices?
Does anyone out there know what I'm talking about???
Thanks!
