Thank You: Cranberry Almond Coffee Cake
Misc.YES!!! The second cranberry coffee cake recipe IS my lost recipe. I remembered that it had milk in the glaze, and that I used self rising flour when I made it because that was the only type of flour that my grandmother would buy.
Thank you so much!!
As for the "issues" life has handed me, that is what has made me who I am. I occupied my "good days" during about 6 months of cancer treatment at age 16 with working on my recipe collection. You have a LOT of time to pour over cookbooks, magazines, newspapers, etc. when you're stuck in a hospital or too weak to want to get out of bed. As for the fire that destroyed my recipe collection in 2001, I could have lost so much more than treasured recipes. My youngest son was 2 weeks old at the time and my oldest son was 18 months. I was recovering from a C-section and complications of my youngest son's delivery. I could not pick up my 18 month old at all during that time. At the time of the fire, it would have been nap time. Chances are that my oldest son would have been in his room at one end of my house in his crib and my youngest would have been in his bassinet by my bed on the other end of the house. The fire began outside with a small "brush and leaves" fire because my FIL was clearing land behind my house. The fire got out of hand and traveled up the electrical conduit outside and came into the house in my bedroom. It would have blocked off my door and the ability to get in or out of that room. If my youngest son and I had been in there, there would not have been a way out. If only the baby had been in there, there wouldn't have been a way in. So I COULD have lost 1, if not both of my children and my own life in that fire. Instead, I was an hour away at a doctor's appointment and had my youngest son with me. My oldest son was at his grandmother's house having his nap in her nursery. My two most treasured things on this planet were BOTH safe. Recipe collections can be rebuilt or started over, just like houses, but children's lives can not. I got another house, I resumed collecting recipes. Unfortunately, I lost that house and that collection to a tornado in 2005, but again, my children were not in the home and they were safe. I think I simply never stop collecting my recipes even if I have lost about 6 or 7 binders of them by now. LOL.
Thank you so much!!
