Cookbooks for Beginners and Some Ideas

Misc.

Hello njconnie,

Here are some cookbooks to consider:

Help! My Apartment Has a Kitchen: 100+ Great Recipes With Foolproof Instructions
All U Can Eat: Make It Fast!, Make It Cheap!, Make It Delicious!
The Good Housekeeping Step-By-Step Cookbook
Where's Mom Now That I Need Her: Surviving Away from Home
You're Not in Mom's Kitchen Anymore!: College Cooking for the Dorming Gourmet

A suggestion, whichever cookbook(s) you purchase for them, read through them and choose the recipes you think they'll enjoy. Write the titles and page numbers inside the front cover. Then, on those pages, highlight key instructions or ingredients and write your cooking tips, menu suggestions, substitutions, love notes :-), etc. alongside the selected recipes.

If they haven't participated in shopping for food, take a 'field trip' to the grocery store and teach them how to select produce and meat, how to read unit pricing and other shopping basics. Also, you might want to create a general weekly shopping list of items (including brand names if they have favorites) that can be printed out and used to check off what they need before going to the store.

I hope that's help!

Betsy
