Diane- not a dumb question...like my boss always says...the only dumb question is the one not asked. My daughter in law is from Phoenix-and as I said she cooks spicy- but thats because my son likes it that way and she does too!
Not everyone likes the commercially prepared spicy food - there are alot of ways to spice up the taco mixture. You can use the sauce (as you mentioned). You can add some chopped chilis or a number of other spices if you like. Have fun cooking and trying your own recipes to see which ones you like best...when you find the right combination, write it down so you can find it later on...I do that now after trying to remember what I did the last time....
