Hi, manyhats! Zipper cream peas.......

Misc.

are a type of pea grown here in the south. My daddy started growing these peas a few years before I got married and "left home." (I live 2 blocks from my childhood home.)

My daughter and husband love them. My husband thinks that they are as addictive as popcorn.

These peas are large peas, kind of like a light-colored crowder. They are easy to shell and I usually get between 10-12 quarts per hamper, or bushel.

I cleaned out my freezer in the basement today and found 12 quarts of peas that I didn't know that we had. Since I've "put up" 40 pints already this summer, I think that I have enough to last me until next summer.

Manyhats, I love living in the south, too. There are two exceptions--the heat and the humidity. However, living in a small town where crime is low and the neighbors are friendly is conducive to my mental health!

My next door neighbor is a transplant from Michigan. She is spending the summer with her daughter in Michigan because our summers are brutal! She has called me over the summer and told me how she longs to come back to our little town. She said that when she crosses the Alabama state line she feels as though she were home.

Our town is very small. We go to the next town in Florida to go to the doctor, buy groceries,go to Wal-Mart etc. It is a wonderful place to raise a family and many retired people purchase homes and live here.

Thanks for the compliment. I made my day!

Happy Thursday!
