Picnic Quilts for Two...

I bought an entire bolt of red & white checkered fabric with big (giant) black
ants on it. I cut a square (54"?) and a backing of another solid fabric. I then
put batting between the layers and sewed it all around the edges. Then, I tied
little tucks of embroidery thread "every so often" to quilt it, tieing each in a
knot and cutting the thread, leaving them about an inch long.

I put these in some large canvas tote bags, along with disposable (or reusable
plastic) picnic supplies. This works great when you can't carry an entire basket
collection with you. For wedding gifts, etc., I include wine in a padded wine
duffle that I make, a loaf of French bread in a loooong muslin sack, etc.

A specialty shop wanted to order four dozen of the quilts but I said, "Whoa
Nellie!"...;0)
