re: Beau Monde

Misc.
I have a recipe for Dill Dip that calls for Beau Monde. I have an ancient jar of Spice Islands Beau Monde that lists the ingredients as : salt, dextrose, onion, celery seed (though it seems to be ground) and tricalcium phosphate. When I recently realized that Beau Monde (or any Spice Islands spices) was no longer available, I poked around in the spice section of my grocery store and found a seasoned salt from McCormick called Bon Appetit. It's ingredients are: salt, MSG, clery seed and onion so it seems like it might be close to Beau Monde. It appears much lighter in color than my Beau Monde which makes me think that it may have more salt in proportion to the onion and celery seed than the Beau Monde but at least the ingredients are similar. My store seems to be switching over to McCormick spices with blue lids (fancier labels). This Bon Appetit is in the McCormick jar with a green lid so I hope you will have some luck finding it. Otherwise, I think Elaine's suggestion is a good one.
