Misc.Have you seen an actual recipe for such a cake, Nancy? Sponge cake and cakes from boxed mixes are very different from each other. Mixes contain fat and artificial leavening, while sponge cakes typically contain no fat and are leavened only with eggs, separated and the yolks and whites beaten and folded into the batter separately.
In short, I don't think it's possible to get a sponge cake result from a basic layer cake mix.
