Some sites for Cooking/Recipe Contests

Misc.

Since Betsy posted the Kraft BBQ site - here are a couple of others for you to check out:

http://www.freshpork.com/ -- this is entered 'on line' and deadline is 6/9. Not a big contest - but it might be fun if you have a recipe that fits.

http://www.eatchicken.com/homepage.cfm -- this is he National Chicken Cook Off with a Grand Prize of $25,000 - 51 finalists will win expense paid trip to Dallas in May '99 to compete for 5 prizes - this is 1 per state and D of C. Deadline is 10/15.

http://www.sutterhome.com/hm1000.html - another cook-off with nice $$$ prizes and a great trip to the wine country in Calif. 8/31 deadline for a 10/3 cook-off. Be sure to check out some of the former winners - some are pretty interesting!

http://www.bi-lo-com/ -- this is another cook-off -- but it is for several Southeast states where there are bi-lo supermarkets. Sounds nice - but alas, not in my area!

http://www.recipesecrets.com/liptonw/owa/home -- this is another 'on line' contest - it is monthly with a different theme "burger", "Wrap", "Pasta salad" etc. each month -- not a large prize .....but sounds like fun.

http://www.muirglen.com/ -- recipe contest using their canned tomato products -- you can get entry blank on line from their site. End of July deadline.

http://www.ilovecheese.com/ --I just found this and haven't really read it yet!

http://www.pilgrimsride.com/chicken/chkcont.htm -- this appears to be a monthly contest - with smaller prizes - and at end of year a trip for 2 to Mexico. Check out the site to see if the product is sold in your area. Alas, again - not mine!

Of course, the BIGGIE - and QUEEN of most coooking contests is the PILLSBURY BAKE OFF - held every 2 years. Next will be in February 2000 -- so entry info should be out in May/June of '99. Ah ....

If you're interested, it is a good idea to bookmark some of the companies who have contests - then you can check every week or 2. Also, some who have had contests will have winning recipes on their site --
i.e. www.starkist.com just put out their winners and I think Kretschmer's Wheat Germ will have their top winning recipes the next time www.quaker.com changes their site (usually every 1- to- 1-1/2 months. Reading recipes that won is a good idea -- gives one the outlook of what is winning and sometimes gives you some new ideas.

I still think a contest bulletin is a good idea. And I do subscribe to one of the 3 that Shirley mentioned further down this board. Also, check the colored ad inserts in your Sunday newspapers - often they will have recipe/cooking contests. BETTER HOMES & GARDENS magazine has a contest monthly - with nice $$$ prizes. A THRILL when one wins there -- but, like many - tough competition. But one never knows!
