Recipe: Saucy Bars

This is taken from Yankee Church Supper Cookbook.Says next to the recipe,"Similar in taste & consistency to a carrot cake,would also be good with cream cheese frosting".Sounds good & moist.

Saucy Bars:
Makes 2 dozen

1/2 c.butter
1 c.sugar
1 c.applesauce
1 tsp.vanilla
2 c.flour
1 tsp.baking soda
1/2 tsp.salt
1/2 tsp.cloves
1 tsp.cinnamon
1 tsp.nutmeg
3/4 c.raisins
1/2 c.chopped nuts

Cream butter & sugar.Add applesauce & vanilla.Sift together flour,baking soda,salt & spices & add to applesauce mixture.Mix well.Stir in raisins & nuts.Spread in greased 9 by 13 inch baking pan.Bake 35-40 minutes in 350 degree oven.Frost while warm.

Frosting:

1/4 c.,melted butter
1/4 c.cream
1 & 3/4 c.confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp.vanilla

Beat together butter,cream,sugar & vanilla.Spread over.Cut into 24 bars.
