ISO: "Lump of Coal" candy recipe

I am searching for a recipe for "Lump of Coal" candy for white elephant christmas gifts. I belive this is a hard candy that is licorice-flavored (anise?). I have seen it available at gifts stores, however, at this late time before Christmas, stores are sold out. Can anyone help?
