Recipe(tried): A very frugal use for very stale cake donuts>>>

Misc.

My step-son found day-old cake donuts on sale at 4 doz for $1.00 recently. After my sons had eaten all they could (he brought home a CASE), I was left with 2 boxes of very, very dry donuts. Idea! Donut Bread Pudding! I baked it this am, & we just tried a dish----oh so yummy! This will make a wonderful dessert to go with our Swiss Steak dinner tonight. I feel so good about making a 'silk purse from a sow's ear'! Just use your favorite bread pudding recipe, or try this one. A little drizzle of cream on top gilded the lily!
Donut Bread Pudding
4 3/4 C milk, divided
4 eggs
2/3 C sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 C butter
10 C cubed stale cake-type donuts (plain)-OR 11 C stale french bread, cubed
1 tsp. cinnamon
2/3 C raisins, optional
2/3 C chopped pecans, optional
Heat 4 C milk, add butter, set aside. In a large bowl, combine remaining milk, eggs, sugar, salt & vanilla. Gradually add warm milk/butter mixture, stirring. Add cubed donuts, & let stand 10 minutes. Pour into buttered 9"x13" baking dish. Bake at 375 deg. for 1 hour. Serve just barely warm with cream, if desired.
