Anne's Almond Bars
rec.food.cooking/Rudy Prins (1995)

Hollanders brought up in Grand Rapids, MI know what almond pastries are all about and are among their favorite pastries. I was one of those and love those pastries, the more almond paste the better. Try the following recipe of my aunt Ann, a hand-me-down from my mother:

1 cup real butter
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups almond paste
1 3/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt (optional)
2 cups flour
1/2 cup chopped almonds

Cream butter and almond paste. Beat in sugar and eggs. Add flour, mix in. Pour in greased 9 x 13 pan. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake 359 for 40 min. Let cool, cut into squares. They freeze well.
