Recipe: Appetizers Using Old English Cheese - 4 recipes
Appetizers and SnacksOLD ENGLISH CHEESE SPREAD
The peppy flavor of horseradish will awaken your taste buds.
SPREAD INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup milk
1 pound LAND O LAKES Deli American Cheese, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 teaspoon spicy brown mustard
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 (5.5-ounce) can spicy vegetable juice*
2 to 3 tablespoons prepared horseradish
2 tablespoons sliced green onions
DIPPERS INGREDIENTS:
Pretzels, crackers and/or pumpernickel or rye cocktail bread
Combine all spread ingredients except vegetable juice, horseradish and green onions in 3-quart saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until smooth (8 to 10 minutes). Stir in vegetable juice, horseradish and green onions. Spoon into crock or serving bowl. Cover; refrigerate at least 2 hours.
Serve with dippers as desired.
*Substitute 1/3 cup tomato juice.
MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS:
Combine all spread ingredients except vegetable juice, horseradish and green onions in medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on MEDIUM (50%) power for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until smooth. Stir in vegetable juice, horseradish and green onions. Spoon into crock or serving bowl. Cover; refrigerate at least 2 hours.

OLD ENGLISH CHEESE BALL
1 (8 oz.) Philadelphia cream cheese
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
2 to 3 green onions, chopped
1 jar Old English cheese
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Mix all together in a bowl with mixer, dump out on plastic wrap. Wrap up. Refrigerate overnight. Next morning roll in chopped nuts or bacon bits.
OLD ENGLISH HERB CHEESE
4 oz. sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
3 tbsp. dry sherry
2 tbsp. whipping cream
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. parsley flakes
1/2 tsp. minced chives or green onion tops
1/8 tsp. white pepper
1/8 tsp. dried sage leaves
1/8 tsp. dried tarragon leaves
1/8 tsp. dried thyme leaves
1/8 tsp. dried chervil leaves
1/4 tsp. prepared mustard
Combine all ingredients except crackers in top of double boiler. Heat over simmering water, stirring constantly, until cheese melts and mixture is smooth. Pour into 2 small decorative pots or custard cups; cool. Refrigerate covered until serving.
Serve cheese at room temperature with assorted crackers or English biscuits.
TIPS: English crackers can be purchased in specialty stores.
Old English Herb Cheese tastes bets when made 1 to 2 days before serving to blend flavors.
